The best saffron is found in the regions of Afghanistan or Iran. Commonly Faked since it is the most Expensive PiceExcellent Quality and Real - Since Saffron is commonly faked since it is the most expensive piece (by weight), I like to leave reviews to help both inexperienced and experienced saffron buyers. I have encountered many fakes even at grocery stores. This is not a fake.

Authenticity tests include smelling and evaluating the threads by soaking them in water. Fake saffron will do several things that will clearly identify them as fake.

After adding a few threads to some water, the water should be bright yellow and clear while the threads will retain their dark color on the entire thread. Fake saffron will produce water that is not quite as vibrant but also muddled. For fake, the dye soaks off and the threads start to disintegrate and some of the threads will turn a white color as the dye wears off.
